Lirica No. 7: New Klapa Songs from XIV-XVII MFK-Perast

Promocija 1.JPG

In the seven previous issues of the Lirica festival almanac (2013-2019), the memory of the first valuable melographer recorders of our musical tradition was preserved: Ludvik Kuba, Dionisio de Sarno-San Giorgio, and Franjo Kuhač from the end of the XIX century, and later melodies and authors from Boka: Tripo Tomas, Nikola Gregović, Minja Vučetić, Nikša Čučić, Vida Matjan, Iv Begu, Dragan Rakić, and Božidar Ivanišević, through to the most celebrated authors of contemporary times. With the celebrated re-issuing of the Dalmatian Songs of Ludvik Kuba (1907) in 2015, the Festival made a significant contribution to ethnomusicology in Montenegro and beyond, discovering and recovering 155 unknown music scores of songs that were sung in Boka long before Kuba recorded them.

New Klapa Songs, as a competition category, was introduced for the first time in the program of the VIII International Festival Klapa Perast in 2009. In Lirica No. 2, 2014,  34 new klapa songs wer published and premiered from the VIII to XIII Festival. This year's Lirica No. 7 is a continuation of our publishing activity and presents 33 new klapa songs performed from the XIV to XVII Festival. The theme of the songs is Boka Kotorska – Sea and Maritime.

Once performed, these songs enter our web library as Songs of Boka, now with a collection of more than 350. The scores are thus available to artists and performers. Many of these songs, after the premiere performances, have become part of the constantly advancing repertoire of numerous klapa from the region and Montenegro, which speaks of their popularity and further musical life.
