Since 2009, when this competition category was introduced, 77 New Klapa Songs have premiered over the course of the VIII to XVII editions of the International Festival of Klapa Perast. Among the poets of these songs are some of the greatest living authors, such as Jakša Fiamengo, Vesna Parun, Miloš Milošević, Mila Moškov, and many others. Тhe composers and arrangers are also some of the most esteemed in the klapa world, including Krešimir Magdić, Duško Tambače, Vicko Dragojević, Vinko Didović, Marija Katavić, Jure Šaban-Stanić, Ana Kodrič-Ivelić, and Tomislav Sušac. For the local heart's content, there are a significant number of domestic authors like Slobo Kovačević, Ivan Tomas, Mia Vidović, Bobo Nikolić, Jovanka Veljović, Zoja Đurović, and Momčilo Zeković, among others. With premiere performances of excellent klapa groups that are preparing new songs with sincere dedication, this competition category has been received with great approval from festival audiences each year. This year, the klapas and authors have announced eight New Klapa Songs that will compete for the awards of the Expert Jury for the best verses, composition, and arrangement, as well as for the audience award.
