Accademia Bizantina was founded in Ravenna in 1983. Since 1996, with the appointment of conductor Ottavio Dantone, the ensemble has been adhering to the Baroque style and form in their performances, without any modifications to the musical text and relying on the sounds of authentic instruments. Being able to convey the original composer’s authentic intentions to the public is an invaluable asset that has earned the Accademia Bizantina numerous national and international recognitions and collaborations. Each performance by Accademia Bizantina, which since 2011 can also count among its members the renowned concertmaster Alessandro Tampieri, is an unexpected journey through time, an unparalleled balance between technique, skill, rigor, interpretative culture, intuition, and stylistic accuracy. The Byzantine Academy has recorded for Decca, Harmonia Mundi, Deutsche Grammophon, Naïve, Alpha, Onyx, HDB Sonus, and others. They have received prestigious awards such as Diapason d’Or, Midem, Choc di Classica, Opus Klassik, a Grammy Music Award, and Gramophone Awards. The ensemble has performed in the world’s most prestigious halls, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, Wigmore Hall and Barbican Center in London, Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris, the Royal Opera of Versailles, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, among others.
