Erika Miklósa, soprano, a Kossuth, Liszt Ferencz, and PrimaPrimissima prize-winner, was admitted to the Hungarian State Opera as its youngest member ever. She studied at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia and made her international debut in 1992 in Brussels. Her role as the Queen of the Night from Mozart’s opera Die Zauberflote brought her fame on the world stage, from London to Paris to New York. Thanks to this, she has become one of the most sought-after coloratura sopranos and has sung this role more than 500 times. In the Hungarian State Opera, Erika Miklósa has starred as Adele from JohannStrauss’ Die Fledermaus, Gilda from Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto, and Konstanze from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail, among many others. Since 2004, she has been regularly featured on the stage of the New York Metropolitan Opera. In addition to dramatic roles, Erika Miklósa has appeared in comic operas, operettas, and musicals, such as in the role of Maria in Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story. She cares deeply about issues related to health, sports, charity, and talent programs.
World-famous opera singer Erika Miklósa performs her favorite music in her own recognizable way. From the orchestrated tangos of Astor Piazzolla, through the popular aria of Carmen by Georges Bizet and other songs from the most famous operettas and operas, to the chansons of Édith Piaf, the audience has the opportunity to enjoy a variety of musical styles and genres. She is currently touring with the Escualo Quartet, which consists of four outstanding musicians: double bassist György Póta, accordionist Zsolt Deli, violinist Ernő Kállai, and guitarist Rezső Kutik. The ensemble was founded twenty years ago to present and preserve the art of Astor Piazzolla, playing popular pieces of music repertoire worldwide in their own orchestration. Therefore, all songs from their repertoire have a taste of tango. The ensemble is completed by pianist Miklós Harazdy, a lecturer at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest and Erika Miklósa’s permanent accompanist and music coach.
